Learn to coldwork some glass

March 31st, 2010

If you’ve been wanting to learn the best way to cold work your glass, but you just don’t know where to begin, maybe you should consider taking a class.

Coldworking master Johnathon Schmuck is teaching a beginning coldworking class at Wired Designs in San Antonio TX beginning April 15th. A great way to start moving your work in new directions!

You can contact wired designs directly at wireddesigns@sbcglobal.net or click here for more information.

Glass residency

March 16th, 2010

So you’re looking for a way to refine your craft, gain some exposure and learn more about how to market yourself, but you don’t have a ton of money to invest in your fledgling glassblowing business?

Why not try a residency? The EnergyXChange in Burnsville NC is now offering a glass residency program. The EnergyXChange is built on the site of the former Yancey County landfill and utilizes the methane gas the landfill produces to run it’s kilns, furnaces and glory holes. What this means to you is free gas for your work. Residents have lodging, office space, gallery space, work environments and the opportunity to learn and grow in their craft and business acumen. The EnergyXChange is only a few miles from the venerable Penland School of Craft and roughly an hour from Asheville (our lovely home town).

Information on the residency program can be found in a PDF here.

Artist Spotlight

February 23rd, 2010

We’re still on the lookout for artist spotlights for our newsletter. Now that our newsletter has moved to a monthly schedule, we’ll hopefully have artist spotlights about every quarter.

If you’re interested in being featured on our newsletter and on our website, please just drop us an email and let us know.

We’ll send a quick questionnaire about your work and yourself and ask for a few pictures and explanations of how they were coldworked.

Easy!

Speaking of newsletters, if you haven’t signed up for ours, then check out the box to the right. You can fill in your email adddress and name and you’ll receive our next newsletter when it goes out.

Site redesign

February 16th, 2010

We’ve been working on a moderate redesign of our web site recently, so you may notice some hiccups when you load some pages. This is mainly due to our old site design being ‘cached’ in your browser. Just hit reload and you should see our new design in all its subtle glory.

Part of the redesign has also been a move to a new blog structure. This will undergo some refinements over time, but will probably take a bit longer than the other parts of the site.

We’re always looking to improve your browsing through our site and would love to hear what you think is working or isn’t working in our site design.
